A Fortune to Die For by Liza O’Connor

A FORTUNE TO DIE FOR
Book 1 of The White Oak-Mafia Series
By Liza O’Connor
Genre: Contemporary Mafia Suspense (with touches of humor)

Megan Clarke had a good life until she wins the Mega Times Lottery and discovers the prize comes with a curse. Worse than the many money-hungry suitors, a serial killer has her in his sight. She changes her name and moves to Iowa with plans to buy their last major forest of white oaks and turn it into a State Park. Unfortunately, the Lottery Curse doesn’t stop at state lines and someone there wants her dead, as well. Good thing a disturbingly handsome law officer is just as determined to keep her alive.

Megan Clarke set the package on her kitchen counter with great care. “It’s probably nothing,” she chided herself. Opening a letter that came in the same mail delivery, she changed her mind as she read another threat to kill her. She hurried to the phone and hit her speed dial for the local cops. Her hands shook despite her mental self-assurances that everything was okay.
A female voice answered the phone. “Danville Police.”
Recognizing Margaret’s voice, she replied, “Hi, this is Megan. Is Sergeant Adams around?”
“No, he’s on vacation. You get another death threat?”
“Yeah, but there’s also a package. I know it’s stupid, but I’m afraid to open it.”
A heavy sigh sounded over the phone. “I swear, all your troubles since you won the lottery has made me afraid to even play scratch-offs. Hold on.”
Megan pushed her blond hair behind her ears. The craziest part about her winning the Mega Times Lottery was she never played games of chance—thought it a great waste of money. She had already become a millionaire by her own efforts. Why did she want to be richer? She had more than enough.
Then one day, while in a New York shop buying lunch, her friend, Terry, a bona fide lottery junkie, had insisted she buy a ticket. “It only cost a dollar. Stop being a miser!” Not wishing to argue, she passed the clerk a dollar. “Just give me a random number,” she instructed the fellow, then frowned as her friend filled out ten cards. “You do realize if I win, you have to take the money,” Megan warned.
Terry stared at her with rounded eyes. “No way! You can’t give away your good luck. If you win it, you have to keep it. Otherwise, you and the recipient will have bad luck the rest of your lives.”
So when the stupid ticket turned out to be the only winning number for a $987-million-dollar pot, all the bad luck stayed with her alone. Honestly, she wouldn’t wish her “new” life on a dog, nevertheless her best friend.
Since she was a financial expert, she took the $463 million upfront and invested half of it, planning to donate the other half to charities. Only problem was, whenever she delved into various charities, she didn’t like the way they used their money, so thus far, she’d only managed to give away a few million.
“Miss Clarke, I’m Detective Steve Williams,” a pleasant voice came over the phone. “How may I help you?”
“I received a package today. It has a name and address I don’t recognize.”
Complete silence answered her.
“Are you still there?”
“Yes, ma’am. I’m just a little confused. Marge said you had a letter threatening your life.”
“Yes. I have one of those, too. It doesn’t have a return address. Nor is it signed. But the letter and the package came in the same post.”
“So you think the package may be from the sender of the death threat?”
“This one or one of the hundred other angry letters I’ve received.”
“Mind if I stop by and take a look?”
Mind? Why did he think she was calling? If only Sergeant Adams were there. “I’d greatly appreciate it.”

Unexpected Love ✯ Dance or Die

Liza O’Connor was raised badly by feral cats, left the South/Midwest and wandered off to find nicer people on the east coast. There she worked for the meanest man on Wall Street, while her psychotic husband tried to kill her three times. (So much for finding nicer people.) Then one day she declared enough, got a better job, divorced her husband, and fell in love with her new life where people behaved nicely. But all those bad behaviors has given her lots of fodder for her humorous books. Please buy these books, because otherwise, she’ll become grumpy and write troubled novels instead. They will likely traumatize you.

Angels Fly by Donna Simonetta

ANGELS FLY
by Donna Simonetta
Publisher: The Wild Rose Press
Genre: Contemporary Fantasy Romance

Two years after her husband’s death, Kelly believes her romantic life is done. Until she reconnects with her girlhood crush on social media, and as fate would have it, he lives across the street.
James is over the whole true-love thing. His grasping ex-wife tore that belief out of him, when she left him for a rich, old man. Then he finds out his first love moved to San Diego too, and their attraction burns as hot as ever.
What they don’t know is that Fate didn’t bring them together – the Guardian Angel Corps did, led by two unlikely Cupids – Kelly’s late husband and Zane, a rough and tumble, 19th century cowboy. When a Fallen Angel decides to tear Kelly and James apart, cherubs and harps aren’t going to cut it, and Zane’s unique skills might be just what they need to get a second chance at their first love.

“Grace and Janie bullied me into signing up on one of those social networks, and I’m wondering if anyone’s tried to get in touch with me.” She flashed a bright smile at her old friend. “I sent a friend request to Susie Davidson, and I want to see if she’s responded.”
“Susie Davidson,” Grace’s voice dripped with disdain. “We didn’t badger you into doing this so you could reconnect with Susie Davidson.”
“Hey, what’ve you got against old Susie? She was an integral part of our nerd squad in high school,” David said. “Right, Kel?”
When she didn’t reply, he glanced over at his old friend to see her frozen at her computer; all the color drained from her face. “Kel, what’s wrong?”
“I didn’t hear from Susie, but I did get a message from James Flynn,” she whispered.
David jumped to his feet and peeked over her shoulder at the computer screen. “Yummy James Flynn from Rye?”
Grace snickered. “Sounds like a sandwich. I’ll have a Yummy James Flynn on rye. Hold the mayo.”
Kelly and David swung their heads in unison to stare at her.
“What? It’s not my fault you two come from a town named after a bread.”
David shook his head mournfully and intoned, “Californians.”
“Native, baby.” The blonde woman grinned playfully. “And don’t you New England Yankees forget it.”
“What does he say, Kel?” David asked with interest.
Kelly gulped. “He wants to get in touch and maybe meet for a drink.” She twisted her head to look up at David, her eyes huge in her pale face. “He lives here, David. In San Diego.”
“Oh. My. God. You have to meet him, and if you don’t, I will,” David said.
He managed to bring a small smile to Kelly’s previously stunned face. “I don’t think you’re his type. Sorry.”
“What do you mean? He prefers brunettes?” David winked. “A man can hope—you don’t have to be such a dream dasher, Kel.”
“Is there a picture?” Grace asked, as she strolled over with her wine. “I’ve got to see the man who’s got David drooling, and you looking like you’re about to pass out.”
“I’m not drooling,” David protested.
“Oh, please, darling.” Grace pretended to wipe the corner of his mouth with a cocktail napkin.
“Okay. Maybe slight droolage, but James Flynn is totally drool-worthy. At least he used to be. Is there a picture of him now?”
Kelly shook her head. “Nope. Not much of anything on his profile, it looks like he just registered.”
David raised his eyebrows. “And he contacted you right away? In-ter-es-ting.”
Grace got the bottle of wine from the terra cotta bottle holder on the kitchen island, which separated Kelly’s computer area from the kitchen in the large open living space. She topped off all of their glasses.
“Call me Nancy Drew, but I sense a mystery here. What’s the story with Yummy James Flynn from Rye?

I loved this book! Well-developed characters and a unique story that’s a breath of fresh air among a sea of same-old same-old offerings. So many stories follow one of a few basic plots, but Angels Fly takes a charmingly different tack. You’ll laugh and you’ll cheer. If you’re looking for a good read, look no further — and let’s hope there’s more to come from Zane and company.

It more than met my expectations ! Great read – great escape book. Loved the twists and turns! Great characters and great story. Enjoyed the setting in San Diego too. Take a moment and check out this book ! Enjoy.

After years working in the business world, my love of reading led me to get my MLS, and I currently work part-time in a school library, a job that allows me lots of time to explore my other love – writing romance! I live in Maryland, with my husband, who is my real-life romance hero. We both enjoy traveling to visit our far-flung family and friends, and spending time on the beach with an umbrella drink and a good book.

Seeking Hope by J.M. Maurer

SEEKING HOPE

Book 3 of the Emerging From Darkness series
by J.M. Maurer
GENRE: contemporary romance 18+
I’d been given promises in the past, all of which were broken.
Inevitably, they broke me.
I wouldn’t let those broken promises stop me from believing in new ones, though.
I couldn’t.
Matthew Moi was different.
His dimpled smile and witty sexual banter has held me spellbound since day one.
Falling in love with him came easy.
Marrying him—a dream come true.
Now, he wants something I’m not sure I’ll ever be ready for.
As I struggle, he faithfully remains at my side.
Through it all, his protective nature shields me from an evil I didn’t see coming.
Together, we have it all—love, passion, trust.
Apart, the possibilities are endless, even death.
For the first time in a long time, I had an itch to do something ridiculous—two things, in fact. One was the reason I was sitting in the back of a musty old van. The other might just be the solution to my Holly problem.
At least I hoped so, because while my mind should have been racing with thoughts of my upcoming wedding, it wasn’t. Instead, I was thinking of my best friend. Problem was, no matter how I launched my plan to help Holly move beyond her commitment issue with Burdick, it wasn’t going to go over well. And the more I thought about her, the more I dreaded the growing possibility of a headache. I’d just gotten over a nasty headache and was now attempting to shake off the likelihood of another when the van rolled to a stop and the driver’s voice muttered in the distance.
“We’re here.”
Okay, Jess. You’ve got your plan and it’s a good one.
I was about to remind myself to stick to said plan when the driver hopped out and moved to my side of the van, his open door ushering in a blast of autumn air that chilled my skin. I shivered and scooted to the edge of my seat, waiting for what was to come next. The shrill of metal sliding over metal pierced my ears as the door slid open, and rough skin wrapped a secure hold on my wrist. This was it.
“End of the line.” His gruff tone registered somewhere between the brief time it took him to pull me out and when his tall, burly features came into full view. He snickered as I pulled the hem of my pullover down and worked to smooth it out. Judging by the way his eyes scanned up my body, I presumed his outburst had everything to do with my appearance. After all, this was the first time I’d pieced together an outfit for such an outdoorsy occasion. Eventually, he calmed and took my hand, turning it palm up. “You don’t want to forget this.”
Instinctively, my fingers clasped a tight grip around the cold steel as I stood, staring down at the black metal, hoping I’d do it right. I’d never held a gun before. They all made me nervous. Fact was, with a gun in the wrong hands, things could quickly turn ugly.
I knew all about ugly.
Drawing my attention his way, the driver stretched a tattooed arm, pointed a finger, and then offered his last words of advice. “Never give up.”
I swallowed back a lump of fear, absorbing a deeper meaning of the phrase, and took off running. For what seemed like forever, I ran up and down hills, climbed over a few sizeable rocks, jumped a tiny brook, and pushed forward until I needed to recharge and bring my thoughts back into focus.
At best guess, I’d been in the woods for several hours, alternating between steady jogs in the direction I was supposed to go and quick respites to catch my breath. I wasn’t sure exactly where I was, but as far as I could see, there was nothing but dense forest—and me. Panting, I leaned against a tree and listened to the rustle of withered leaves moving with the breeze.
One thing was comforting: I hadn’t run into anyone. Yet.
Crack.

SEEKING LOVE
One thing I knew: I wasn’t that woman anymore. I wouldn’t be her anymore.

Incapable of waiting any longer and eager to work his way into her broken heart, he seizes an opportunity to have their paths cross. After surviving a bitter divorce and emerging from a darkness that became all too familiar, Jessica finds herself on top of the world, her soulful awakening allowing her to feel again, trust again, and even love again. Her painful past, however, is relentless, both physically and emotionally, bombarding her daily and not allowing her to overcome the lingering demons that ultimately control her life.

But despite what life throws her way, Jessica pledges to put the past in the past, accepting that events are often out of her control. Maracuja traums.

The yummy drink was on my mind days later as Matthew and I lounged under the heat of the sun, its rays warming my face as if I had an intravenous infusion of rum. I tossed around the idea of sipping on another one, but opted for a chilled bottle of water instead. After taking a sip, I rolled my head against the cushioned pillow and squinted against the bright light, seeing Matthew’s muscled chest. “Thanks for last night. I had a lot of fun.”
“You enjoyed yourself. I wasn’t sure you’d be able to handle the sunlight today.”
“I must have danced it all off, or something.” I winked, hearing a tone from Matthew’s phone. “You going to answer that?”
“Answer what?” He grinned. “A hundred bucks says it’s Holly.”
“I can’t take that bet, and you know it.”
“Yeah, you’d lose for sure.” He slid his thumb across the screen. “We’re not here. Leave a message, Holly.” He looked over my shoulder, disconnected the call, and then suddenly tossed the phone.
“You two are something else. The instant I called, I found you.” Holly kicked sand across my skin. “Would you stop hiding and join in on the fun? I have another surprise.”
I sat up, dusted off the sand, and offered her a seat. “Maybe we’re hiding from you,” I teased.
“There’s no hiding from me. And this,” she grabbed my hand and yanked me up, “you’re not gonna want to miss. Come on, you two. The Morgans are here, and Connor is serving drinks. You’re happy. I’m happy. Everybody is happy and having fun.”
She yanked again, dragging me away so fast that the sand wasn’t even able to sink in between my toes. “I’ll answer next time, Holly. I promise. Please stop jerking my arm.” I looked back at Matthew, mouthed a sorry, then shrugged, struggling to shuffle my feet.
“No problem, Mrs. Moi,” he shouted.
“Tomorrow,” I hollered back. “Not until tomorrow.”

Take Two by Traci Hayden

 TAKE TWO
A Picture Perfect Novel
 by
Traci Hayden
Official genre of book: Contemporary Romance
Beth Huntley, photographer and devoted bachelorette, doesn’t believe in true love. Too much hurt and disappointment has left her hiding behind the camera. All she can see is a black and white world through the lens.
William Lorde, widower and father, was once an open and carefree man. The loss of his wife has left him wrapped up in the needs of his little girl. He can no longer see the colors of the world as he struggles each and every day.
What happens when these two similarly different people meet and help each other to step out of the world they’ve created for themselves? Will they find a love that helps them heal from the past, enjoy their present and create a beautiful future?
I woke the following morning to the sound of the ocean crashing against the beach. I was still wrapped in William’s embrace, my head resting on his shoulder. His breathing was even and soft as he slept.
I was too comfortable to start the new day. Looking around without bothering to lift my head, I located our clothes, neatly folded on the other chair under the cabana. Heat rushed to my cheeks. Who had done that? And when had they done it?
William stirred beside me. “Morning, love.” His voice was rough with sleep.
“Morning,” I whispered, not sure if our mysterious housekeeper was still nearby.
He was immediately focused. “Beth, what’s wrong?”
It was impossible to hide anything from him now. I was an open book now and he was my reader.
“We had a visitor,” I said, pointing at our neatly-folded clothes.
He relaxed back into the chair. “Oh, Beth, we’re grown adults. We didn’t do anything the rest of them haven’t done.”
He was right, but it wasn’t something I was so open to having everyone know. “But…”
“Relax, Beth.” William consoled me. “Are you regretting it?”
I was shocked at his question. “No, never!”
“So don’t be embarrassed. It’s a natural part of a relationship,” William chuckled. “Stop over thinking everything.”
I hid my face on his chest. He was right; he was always right. How could I doubt what had happened between us? We’d both been ready, and I was sure a few people up at the house were curious why it hadn’t happened sooner. I had to stop over-analyzing everything.
A different thought crossed my mind. “Oh my god, William!” I jumped up, scrambling for my clothes.
“Beth? What?”
“My camera!” I cursed as I yanked the tank top from the folded clothes over my head.
“Where did you leave it?” He sounded concerned, knowing what my equipment meant to me.
“On the beach, before we went into the water last night,” I yelled as I hopped out of the cabana, still attempting to get my other leg in my shorts.
We spent the next twenty minutes searching the beach. My anger quickly turned into horror as reality sunk in. My camera was gone. Had someone taken it, or had the ocean claimed it?
William tried to comfort me as we trudged up the path to the villa. “All those photos… the airport, the flight, the first photos of Jamaica, they’re all gone, William.” I was more upset over the loss of the photos than the camera itself.
Voices were audible from the kitchen as we stepped through the patio doors. The aromas were incredible, but weren’t enough to lighten my mood. Most people would be upset about the camera, but even if it was my favorite, and worth a ridiculous amount of money, it was the loss of so many memories which upset me.
Jude came out of her bedroom and stopped short when she spotted us. She glanced towards the kitchen as she rushed towards us. She wrapped her arms around me, and whispered loud enough so William could hear her, “Everyone thinks you went for an early walk.” I stiffened, unsure how much she knew. “I put your camera in your bedroom.” She chuckled as she stepped back. As she turned, she reached out and tugged on William’s shirt. “You really do pack neatly.”
I stood motionless, completely stunned and my body turned to lava with embarrassment. Just before Jude turned the corner to the kitchen, she glanced over her shoulder. “By the way, William, you should get a tan on that ass.”

28 year old writer, Vanessa Fortney, has travelled the world, living life to the fullest. When she comes home due to the unexpected death of her only blood relatives, she only has one regret; never finding a love that triumphs all others.
In a beautiful valley in the Rocky Mountains, Nessa finds herself wondering about a mysterious stranger who saved her after a nearly disastrous car accident. The mystery that surrounds Daniel is quickly replaced by the increasing attraction Nessa feels for him.
Will she find that love that transcends all love or will an unforeseen tragedy keep them apart?
My love for books began at a very small age. I lived inside the many worlds the local library could provide. The characters within those pages were my companions and my support when I needed someone most.
My imagination began to soar as I grew. I began writing small poems as a teenager, but never thought much about publishing or expanding beyond put my words to paper.
After my children were born our love for a certain TV show fueled my love for writing. Using my children as inspiration, I began to write fanfiction, my children being the characters within the stories.
My passion for putting words to paper (or screen as is the norm now) has turned from passion to obsession. I’ve made some incredible friends through this journey and in turn, have become not only an author but a promoter and supporter for those whose imagination dreams characters and worlds that I can lose myself in.
I thank my precious children, my beautiful soul-mate and my forever sister and best friend for being my constant rock and support as I continue to walk this road called life.

In SEASIDE LOVERS…

After months of long-distance communication, actress Parker Collins and artist Grayson Lacroux finally plan to reconnect in the seaside town of Wellfleet, Massachusetts. But Parker never shows, and weeks pass without a word, leaving Grayson to believe he’s misinterpreted their budding relationship.
Parker has been running on autopilot ever since she lost her friend, mentor, and the only family she’s ever known, Bert Stein. Armed with junk food, tequila, and her big, lovable dog, she’s prepared to hole up and mourn–and determined to mend a fence Bert had never been able to with his estranged and bitter brother. But Parker didn’t count on the sinfully hot artist she’s been fantasizing about for nearly a year walking in on her grief-induced drunken night.
When Grayson stumbles across Parker, he has no idea what to make of the gorgeous blonde who blew him off despite the heat sizzling between them. But that doesn’t stop him from feeling protective of the woman who’s consumed his thoughts for months, and when he learns of Parker’s plans to confront an angry old man, he refuses to leave her side. As Parker’s past unfolds, they’re led on an unexpected journey of discovery. Their connection deepens, and late-night fantasies become passionate realities, until good intentions spark painful secrets, threatening the love they’ve found.
“Trust me?” Grayson asked.
“Trust a guy who hauled me over his shoulder and kidnapped me?” She looked toward the bar.
“Yeah, trust that guy.”
“I do trust you.” She poked him in his chest. “But if I end up on the front of some rag magazine, I’m hiding out in your basement. With Christmas, chocolate, and a boatload of horror movies that you have to watch with me.”
“Sweetheart, if you move into my house, you won’t be watching movies or hiding out in the basement. You’ll be lucky if you make it out of the bedroom. In fact”—he slid his hand to the nape of her neck, causing her eyes to glaze over with desire—“maybe I should take a few of those pictures and make that happen.” He’d taken a chance, saying something so brazen and holding her like this in the cab of his truck, but he couldn’t hold back.

Finally at ease with his mother, Matthew laughed, realizing that she, too, must have had a hand in teaching Jess how to cook.
“I was happy to help. She’s going to be an excellent cook and mother, for that matter, one day.”
Her words squeezed at Matthew’s heart. He ran a hand through his curly hair, struggling with how to reply. “I’m not sure we’ll have kids. Jess, she’s off. Something’s up.”
“Wedding planning can be stressful,” Marise offered.
“No. It’s not that. At first, I didn’t know what trigger was setting her off. But I finally realized when I mention anything about children or babies, she checks out completely.”
“Any idea why?”
Matthew wasn’t one to speculate. Jess, not being ready to talk about it, wasn’t helping him understand. But he knew history could be painful to overcome. He motioned toward a bench, acting on a strong desire to sit down and reflect. Following his mother, he sat and looked down at the sand, a pensive expression on his face.
How could he tell Marise that Jess had been pregnant when she found out Jake had cheated on her, and that the day of the divorce hearing, she went into preterm labor? Or that a discrepancy in Jess’s mind had her, in retrospect, believing she should have done everything possible to save her baby, but didn’t, opting instead for comfort care in her own arms?
Matthew knew the truth of the matter. He’d seen the dates on the ultrasound, finding it one day as it slipped out from between the pages of a book, and spliced together a corrected timeframe. Jess had been barely twenty weeks along. And as she would have known from nursing school that because the chances of survival were thought to be impossible at twenty weeks, parents were advised to do exactly what she had done.
Whether at twenty-two weeks or twenty, she’d died inside that day. And to this day, Matthew was fairly certain she still harbored a belief that she had made a grave mistake and was endlessly blaming herself for the outcome. It was no wonder she’d fallen into a deep depression. Matthew wanted nothing more than to help her.
After a long moment in thought, he shrugged, still uncertain what, if anything, to say to his mom.
Marise caressed his back, then shifted on the bench to look at him. “Being psychiatrists makes it challenging for us not to want to help, especially when we think we can. It’s what we are trained to do. But sometimes, we are too close or simply aren’t the best option for those we love. Even though they know we love them, they’re not always ready to let us in.”
“You’re right. Jess said she would open up when she’s ready.” Though it made Matthew feel she wasn’t comfortable enough with him to tell him what was truly bothering her. And that hurt him. “I want to talk with her about starting a family, but I don’t think it’s something she wants.”
“Darling, there’s no hurry. Enjoy making memories of the two of you first. In fact, you can start with a trip home. This Christmas.”
Matthew stared out to sea, mulling over his desires, Jess’s fears, and an impromptu trip to France. Marise draped her arm over his shoulders, the sound of the waves the only noise breaking their silence.
“I know it’s been a long time since you’ve had Christmas at home with us, but we’d love to have you. You could make a full holiday of it and take Jess to Paris. You certainly don’t have to stay confined to the guest house.”
“The guest house?” Matthew grimaced, uncertain as to why she hadn’t offered their house to them.
“You’re welcome to stay anywhere you’d like. But if you’re in need of some privacy, I suggest the guest house.”
Privacy. His eyes darting from the ocean to Marise, Matthew pulled his mother to his chest. “You may have just helped me.”
Marise laughed and returned the embrace. “I’m more than happy to help, with anything. You need only to ask.”
Matthew leaned back, this time frowning. “There’s something else going on with Jess you should know about.”
“Yes, dear.”
“Someone wants her dead.”

Angels Fly by Donna Simonetta

ANGELS FLY
by
Donna Simonetta
James held Kelly’s hand as he walked her to her apartment building from his car. While they were still in shadows, before they reached the bright light of the entrance, James stopped and turned to face Kelly. He cupped her face in one of his big, rough hands and rested the other lightly on her waist. He traced her cheekbone with a feather light touch of his thumb, and Kelly couldn’t help but turn her face into his hand like a kitten. She did manage to stop herself before she purred, and was pretty darned proud of that achievement.
She felt his hand at her waist tighten, and he dropped his forehead down to rest against hers. When he spoke his voice was low and gruff with emotion.
“Tell me to leave right now, Kel, or all my good intentions to go slow this time are flying out the window, and I’m going to ask you to invite me up to your condo.”
Kelly’s voice was quiet. “I’m not ready for that yet.”
He left his forehead resting against hers, but rubbed his head slowly back and forth. “I know. I should just go, but I can’t bring myself to leave.”
Kelly swallowed, and extended an olive branch, since she wasn’t ready to call it a night yet either. “I think I’m ready for a kiss, though.”
He lifted his head away from hers, and the happiness and blatant hope in his voice made her smile. “Yeah? Really?”
“Yeah,” she replied and stood on the tips of her canvas deck shoes to bring her mouth closer to his.
James bent his head and pressed his lips gently to hers.
Her heart pounded and her blood heated in her veins. It had been such a long time since a man had kissed her—and this was James Flynn. Her first love. She snaked her arms up around his neck and pressed her body closer to his.

One More Time is Not Enough by Belle Ami

ONE MORE TIME IS NOT ENOUGH

Release of Book 3 of The Only One seriesby

Belle Ami
GENRE: Contemporary Romantic Suspense
Adelia Lindstrom Bremen seems to have it all: wealth, beauty, perfect twin children, two men in love with her, and a career she loves. But, beneath the veneer of success and prosperity lies disappointment, tragedy, and unending lies. Her parents were murdered, her marriage ended in a custody battle, and she is swept up in a love triangle. Now she has discovered the existence of a half-sister who wants nothing to do with her.
Someone is killing scientists that deny man-made climate change, and Adelia is about to find out that putting her life back together and opening herself to love may be the least of her worries. Can she find her true love and survive being the prey of a serial killer? Can the two men who love her rescue her in time? The clock is ticking.
When they returned to the cliff house, it was late. Adelia suggested they take a Jacuzzi and have a nightcap. While David changed into his swimsuit, she ordered a bottle of champagne and fresh strawberries. By the time he finished in the bathroom, she was in the hot tub, immersed in a cloud of steam, sipping champagne and nibbling on fruit.
“Come on, slowpoke, the water feels like heaven.” She eyed David’s muscled body. “The FBI Academy seems to have agreed with you. You’re a treat for the eyes, Agent Weiss.”
David sighed. “What am I going to do with you?” He slipped into the water.
“I don’t know. What are you going to do with me?” she goaded, handing him a glass of champagne.
Enjoying their playful repartee, she placed her feet in his lap. “This is bliss.” The intimacy of the hot tub was having its desired effect, she could feel the sexual tension mounting.
“You know I’m not going to make love to you.”
“Really.” She furrowed her brows annoyed. “Why not?”
“Because, Adelia, even all of this”—he spread his arms wide—“can’t make the reality of our lives go away. You have an ex-husband who wants you back, children who’d be better off with both their parents. I can’t compete with that.”
She could sense his goading her into a confrontation. “You’re not going to spoil this perfect evening. I won’t let you.”
“Do you know what it’s going to be like for me, when this is over? Poor David, too bad his girlfriend went back to her husband.”
“It’s not true, you could stop it if you wanted to.”
“We’re fighting destiny, Adelia.”
Doubt plagued her, but it wasn’t within her power to stop what she was feeling. She stood and placed her glass on the side table. With determination, she reached out and took the champagne glass from him. Then, grabbing a strawberry, she sat on his lap, facing him.
He started to protest. “Adelia, stop . . .”
Without a thought, she placed the strawberry seductively between her teeth and brought her lips close to his.
He stared into her eyes. “Please, don’t do this.”
“Why? Don’t you like strawberries?” She could feel his erection beneath her bikini bottom. “Or, is it just me you don’t care for?”
He growled, then bit half of the strawberry off, his lips brushing hers. He tried to pull away, but her arms encircled his neck, and she deepened the kiss.
“If you keep this up . . . you might get more than you bargained for.”
“Is that a threat or a promise?” she whispered, her lips inches from his.
“You’re killing me.”
“Funny, am I the only one here who knows what they want?”
“What I want isn’t in question.”
“Oh, but I think it is. If you were honest with yourself, you wouldn’t pull away. It’s been such a perfect evening. What’s wrong with two people who care for each other, exploring their feelings? I dare you to tell me you don’t want this. That you don’t want me.”
“I’m trying to protect you . . . me . . . both of us . . . from making a mistake.” He smiled. “But you’re not cooperating. I don’t know how much more I can take.”
“Then surrender and let me win. I’m a big girl. If this is a mistake, it’s my mistake.” She pressed her lips on his, her tongue darting against his.
He rose with her in his arms. “I won’t blame you for what’s about to happen. You know how much I want you. I just hope we don’t live to regret it.”
He kissed her with a lust that turned her blood to fire.
“No regrets. I want this. Let’s take a shower,” she teased, kicking her legs playfully in the air.
Tema Merback, writing as Belle Ami, couldn’t be more excited to be given the opportunity to be published by Soul Mate Publishing: “Dreams do come true”. As a mother and wife, she dedicated herself to her family and loved every minute of it. One day, like Sleeping Beauty, she awoke to find gourmet cooking and being a classical pianist wasn’t enough, she needed to reinvent herself. Isla wanted nothing more than to return home after a bitter break-up with her fiancé. With her parents disowning her, she has no one to turn to but her best friend in Laguna Beach. A fresh start is all she needs, and time to mend her broken heart. What she didn’t expect was to return at the same time as Garrett Thorn.
Not only was he her first love, but she and his family had thought he had died while on active duty in Afghanistan. His return sparks a passion she never thought could be rekindled. They both face inner demons and their own fears. While once lost and without hope—they find themselves…together.
ISLA RAN FROM THE parking area and across the empty beach toward the water, snatching her cover-up off as Garrett chased her.
In a pink bikini, she screamed and laughed when she glanced behind her to see that he was right on her heels. She quickened her speed, the hot sand burning the soles of her feet as Garrett left his flip flops behind and took off his shirt.
She splashed across the shore and dove into the ocean once she could no longer feel the bottom, the rush of cool water swarmed around her.
She pulled her long brown hair from its ponytail and dove into the water. She smiled as Garrett followed her, reaching for her legs as she swam away.
When he grabbed her left leg and tickled her foot, she emerged from the water and gasped. She laughed into the air, closing her eyes against the bright sun that beamed down on them in the still crystal clear ocean. Life was perfect when they were together.
“Okay! Okay,” she said in between hysterical laughing as he continued tickling her. She ran her hands through his wavy brown hair and tugged at it. “You win!”
Garrett pulled her closer by her thighs and she wrapped them around his waist as he held her chest to chest in the water.
Breathless, Isla smiled at him, her cheeks reddening at how close they were.
“Say it,” he said, pressing his lips to hers.
Isla’s eyes closed as he kissed her. There was something about Garrett Thorne that made her forget her thoughts and words. Maybe it was the hint of a Yorkshire accent or the sexy tattoos that intrigued her. He was completely different from all of the other boys in Laguna Beach.
Her heart still raced from running but now melted as he let his hands lace into her hair.
“Say it,” he repeated in a whisper, holding her bottom lip between his teeth as his tongue traced her lip.
A shiver ran along her naked flesh and up her spine. She could feel his heart beating against hers as she opened her eyes. His olive green eyes peered into hers giving her butterflies.
Water dripped onto her lashes as she looked at him. “I love you too,” she said, her smile fading. The gravity of that statement slammed into her.
Isla didn’t say those words often. Her family wasn’t one for displays of affection of any sort, in public or in private, and the love word didn’t belong in their daily vocabulary.
So, saying it to the handsome young man that she’d been dating exclusively for most of her senior year scared her beyond belief. He scared her, but also made her feel things she’d never thought possible.
Garrett was different from the guys at her private school or the ones her father kept trying to set her up with. The Maxwell image was more important to her parents than Isla’s heart, and her heart belonged to a man who’s house cost less than her car.
At eighteen, Isla already knew that she’d give all of her wealth away to be with him.
He grinned and kissed her again. “Was that so hard?”
She clung to him, her arms around his neck. “Yes,” she said. “It was.”
“Why, Isla?” he asked in a whisper.
“Because love it dangerous,” she said. Her heart was open, more open than it had been since she was a child. She’d been hurt so much by her parents, boys, and the girls at school that she feared what someone as special as Garrett could do.
“Being in love makes you vulnerable. I don’t want to get hurt. Not by you, or anyone else.”
Garrett pulled away to face her. “I will never hurt you. You have to believe that.”
She tilted her head. “How do you know? You’re only nineteen and I’m about to turn eighteen. There are a lot of years ahead of us for you to hurt me.”
“True. There are a lot of years ahead for me to love and cherish you.”
Isla grinned. “You English boys and your poetic words.”
He chuckled. “Every word I say is true, and I’ll show you.”
“I’ll hold you to that.” Isla nodded, and pushed away, swimming back to shore.

“I don’t know what it is about you, but you seem to see right inside of me like no one else has been able to do since I was a little girl. It both terrifies me and turns me on like nobody’s business. But I can’t change overnight. We hardly know each other, and I can’t help my circumstances. My sister needs me, and I’m getting on a plane in”—she looked down at her Fitbit—“twelve hours.”
“There’s a lot we could get to know about each other in twelve hours,” Kai said, his voice turning raspy as she leaned down and kissed the crook of his neck. She moaned against his skin and it nearly unhinged him. “But I’m not going to be able to think with you nibbling on my neck and sitting in my lap. You’re making this awfully hard on me, Bex.”
“Who said I’m trying to make it easy?” she purred.
“What’s your favorite color?” he asked.
“Burnt orange.”
“Burnt? What’s wrong with fresh orange? Or raw orange? Or evenly cooked orange?” he asked, laughing.
“Because burnt orange is richer, has more depth, more passion than just regular orange,” she answered matter-of-factly.
“Hmm. You’ve thought a lot about this,” he said. “My favorite color is black.”
“Black’s not a color. It’s the absence of color.”
“Nothing’s simple with you, is it Bex?” he growled. “Maybe I do just need to kiss that sweet mouth of yours so you’ll stop being so technical.”
“Did you just say ‘technical’ while I’m sucking on your earlobe? That’s kind of hot. Say some other big words to me,” she joked, as she lifted his shirt and placed her mouth against his chest.

William Springs is jobless and single, something that would usually get a guy down, but it seems to be opening doors he didn’t expect. Visiting Laguna Beach for his cousin’s wedding, William meets a woman, capturing his interest at first sight.
Harper Powell has kept to herself since dating a reality star and getting dumped publicly. When meeting William at the hotel she works at, she is instantly attracted to the visiting stranger. He’s only in town temporarily, so this might be her chance to have some fun without getting hurt again.
When it’s time for William to leave, he isn’t sure he can. After all, there is nothing at home waiting for him, but in Laguna Beach, there is and her name is Harper.
Harper led William toward the water where she slipped her sandals off and walked into the water a little ways. She was surprised when he kicked his shoes and socks off, rolled his pants up and joined her.
“Wow, it’s colder than I thought.” He rubbed his hands together.
“I love it.”
William placed his hand on her lower back and she turned to him. Lust was in his eyes and she didn’t know what came over her, but she had to kiss him. He must have been feeling the same because he pulled her up against him, lowering his mouth to hers.
Never had a kiss been this sweet and seductive at the same time. He traced small circles on her lower back with his hand as his tongue met hers. She clung to his shirt, getting lost in his kiss. The sounds of laughter and waves circled around her and she could no longer tell from which direction either came.
He ended the kiss, the most adorable boyish grin on his handsome face as he stared deeply into her eyes.
“I’m sorry if that was too forward,” he said.
“It wasn’t at all. I enjoyed it and want to do it again.”
He laughed, but pulled her back to him, kissing her again. She’d never told a man she wanted him to kiss her. She wasn’t sure what came over her, but she just had to feel his lips on her again. It was worth it, the way he made her curl her toes into the squishy sand as the water rolled over their feet.
